While I’ve always been drawn to smooth, beautifully perfect wave paintings with light glimmering on the surface, I wanted to try and see what would happen if I painted a rougher wave. One with chop and swells and the foamy aftermath of beating on the rocks. And so “In the Flow” was born.

In this acrylic painting, I worked loosely. I carved out details, following a reference photo that was zoomed, grainy, and had washed out colors.

I realized as I painted this, in the flow state, this was a metaphor for this year and life in general. My goal was to get in the flow state in my life this year, and I realized the result was much like this painting: messy, creative, and beautiful.
